What a thrill!

What action!

After 8 long years of preparation, the Mars rover has landed! But it’s not alone.

Most of you know of Crystal Shade: Angeni, the epic fantasy book Istvan Szabo and I co-wrote. Well our guardian angel’s name, Angeni has landed on Mars with the Rover.

Her previous experience has been in travelling with the last two space shuttles to the space station before the shuttles were decommissioned.

Our little Angeni has brought another vessel down safely.

At least, that is what I’d like to think.

…hereditary nemesis of Aserian and human alike.

He knows first blood will be on their hands,
and he thanks them for it.

With or without cause, it doesn’t matter when one demon manipulates everyone to destroy the upper ranks so he moves to reach his goal. Not some random creature bent on destruction, but one who feels the breath of destiny upon his own future, he relishes and feeds indecision and doubt at every turn.

“They never surrendered, forcing their demonic enemies to fight
for every inch of their land.”

Crystal Shade: Angeni

Sorry for missing Friday. I did so for two reasons: a) I had a midterm exam that day and b) I was hard at work revamping my review of a good friend and critique partner’s novel, Crystal Shade: Angeni. While I’m not the best at writing reviews, I’m flattered that he asked for my opinion and I’ll do my best not to let him down.

If there’s one thing that shines brighter than all the rest in CSA, it’s the imagery. It’s very wordy as a whole, but for every one time that works against it, there are many where it works in its favor. The world is vast and varied, and its people are myriad. Where some novels simply give a general sense of the surroundings, CSA paints a picture as detailed as a photograph, giving the world a sense of depth not often seen.
The world of Eecrys Aredia is a perfect utopia filled with a masterful sense of mysticism, where everyone is at peace and perfectly happy. Tales of an old forgotten war are widely thought of as myth, for the idea of imperfection and strife is alien there. The young heroine, Grace, has never known anguish or fear. But it soon becomes clear that nothing is clear, and that everything Grace knew was false is soon to become reality—for under the Crystal Shade, nothing and no one is what they seem.

I hope that was up to snuff. Anyway, there you go, folks: Crystal Shade: Angeni, an epic fantasy novel by István Szabó, Ifj., and co-written by Orlanda Szabo. The first volume of three will be available on November 11th, 2011 (a month from today) via Smashwords, Amazon Kindle and other electronic platforms. Volumes Two and Three are planned to be released in 2012.

…slipping away with the old man’s memories that will complete his final and only remaining promise.

“Thousands of stars could tell thousands of stories,” whispered the old man with a gentle smile. “I hope others also see the story of our beautiful star.”

Decades creased the countenance of the weary old man. He propped himself at the balcony, the silky wind ruffling his grey hair. His aged eyes never tired of the stars that pierced the infinite night sky. But despite the enchanting skyscape, his soul, which desired endless peace, was restless. He had one final promise he had made ages ago still unfulfilled. To share the past with those living in the present. A long-held secret, a story to tell. Sorrow embraced him; he knew as the sun rose to greet a new day, one unheard story would pass along with him to vanish for eternity. And the time was close.

“Thousands of energy orbs formed the mass of a majestic miniature galaxy under the tip of the long tapered crystal shard. Each star, a shiny orb, in this chrono device shone its story, its own truth in sapphire, orange, red, green, and purple orbs were just a few among countless colors without a known name. Clear and bright, the shard hovered untethered over the middle of this tiny world like some large mystical sundial.”

“The miniature galaxy gracefully turned between the stalwart columns. His eyes focused on the shadow of the sundial, which slowly crept around the crystal shard. The shadow didn’t come from the sun, which slept beyond the horizon as night stood silent sentry outside. It came from the shard itself. Even now, some of the orbs within the crystal’s untouchable dark shadow slowly changed color.”

“The old man closed his eyes. He was still in the hall, but his mind was far away in a forgotten world.”

I will be with you. Always, whispered a kind female voice that flooded the old man with endless love, snapping him back to reality.”

“He sighed as he studied the crystal chrono device. One of the red orbs within the shard’s shadow suddenly changed to azure. The shadow of the crystal was forced away from that area. The old man’s fond smile returned.”

“You never rest, old friend. You never rest,” his soft voice addressed the crystal. “Our destiny ties us together. We will meet again. Soon.”

The discovery of ancient scrolls aids Angeni’s hunt for the knowledge to solve the Crystal Shade event mystery.

Angeni understands even less of what she has become, but begins to recognize a parallel between then and now.

The first volume of Crystal Shade, Angeni will be available on November 11, 2011 via Smashwords, Amazon Kindle and other electronic platforms.
Volume 2 and 3 will be available in 2012.

Crystal Shade Readers Speak 1

The first Crystal Shade: Angeni review in its entirety!

crystal shade: angeni (preview)

Crystal Shade: Angeni is an upcoming epic fantasy novel by István Szabó, Ifj., co-written by Orlanda Szabo. I was given the chance to preview the first seventy pages of the text, and what I found is an intriguing world with many layers that promise to be unfolded over the course of three novels, the first due out in November. From the little I read, I can say that the author has a very descriptive style, with scenes and images springing to life on every page. The pacing early on is rather slow, so it remains to be seen just how long or how action-packed the final product will be, but early signs are promising.

The following is the current official blurb for the upcoming novel, and you can visit the author’s rather fancy, even futuristic, website at:

Seven year old Grace always dreamt of becoming a guardian angel; like those who guarded and guided her people and prepared to bravely fight in a dreaded mythical event, the Crystal Shade – which never came. It’s not like Grace ever wanted to see Demons. Or wants to know what evil and darkness is – things that no one ever faced on her world and as the legends say, the Crystal Shade carries within – nor does she want to die to be reborn as a guardian. But she thinks the mysterious life of angels is so noble, a fable that sounds exciting – until it actually happens.

Crystal Shade: Angeni, Volume 1, explores the early life of a young daydreaming soul who is destined to reveal the forgotten past of her home world and to seek the answer for the eternal question; what the legendary Crystal Shade really is.
